Apple iTunes 9.0.3 and iPhone OS 3.1.3 now Available

by TABLETfan on February 2, 2010

Apple has released the latest version of iTunes, and an intermediate update for iPhone OS. Git it now! Nothing major that I’ve found, but it speeds things up, fixes some issues, and feeds the Unicorn.

Andrew Lim on Recombu.com has hit upon the idea that some developers have had. Including me, and I’d love to talk to a programmer to make my game a reality. Anyway, Andrew suggests that the iPad is big enough that multiple players can interact on the same iPad. Andrew has a great picture on the Recombu.com site, an iPad with Monopoly on the screen. He also mentions Jumangi and Scrabble. In general, board games will be great on this platform. The iPad will allow levels of interaction that are scores greater than the iPhone, iPod Touch, or even a computer. Why? Because you have the ability to interact both in the real world, together, and/or online with others in remote locations. It is interactive because you all can touch the device at the same time [maybe, we don't know yet just what level of multi-touch the device has], and in general, the entire device is so much more rich than any offer currently on the market. As a side note, I’m not sure why people are comparing the iPad with an e-reader. It isn’t just an e-reader, it isn’t a computer, it isn’t an iPhone. It is a unique platform that merges computing capabilities at a limited level, as well as reading capabilities. So at this point, you can enable all kinds of interaction. From Dungeons and Dragons to Monopoly. If you design software for it properly, you can set four, six, or eight of these side by side and have an ever expanding play area. Just wait for the applications that will be developed for a 10″ screen with interconnectivity through bluetooth or WiFi or 3G. This is going to be great.

So, I’m looking for a coder for this game. I don’t have money, so I’m willing to discuss compensation. With me launching 100 projects in 1 year [this game is one of them], I don’t have a lot of discretionary funds at this point. Will this game be popular? I’m thinking it will be extremely popular. Get in touch with me.

Blue Boxes and Proprietary Standards

January 31, 2010

Why aren’t people as upset with Adobe and the proprietary Flash standard as they are with Apple for not supporting it. The way I see it, people are upset that the iPhone and iPad are a “closed system where Apple dictates what is presented or allowed to run on ‘your’ devices” but that is exactly [...]

January 30, 2010

The Apple iPad – First Impressions

January 30, 2010

The Apple iPad is a svelte device, with no extraneous ports, buttons, or dohickeys. Standard Apple Aesthetics. The OS that powers it is based on the iPhone OS, causing the iPhone OS to be updated to 3.2, but multitasking is not activated. So, some specifications:
Size and weight? It is 9.56 inches tall, 7.47 inches wide [...]

Apple Tablet on Verizon? I certainly hope not.

January 27, 2010

There will be groans around the world if Apple launches the Tablet on Verizon alone. You will hear my screams for miles. I switched from Verizon because of crappy overseas access in the places I roamed. The iPhone works flawlessly where I travel and it gives me the functionality I wanted in a tight little [...]

Amazing. That sound you just heard was Apple’s announcement dying.

January 26, 2010

McGraw-Hill CEO outs the Apple Tablet, Burnett doesn’t realize anything going on around her, and a Unicorn just died.
Just follow this link.
The Apple Tablet was just announced by the McGraw-Hill CEO, and spontaneously ellicited from Erin Burnett on CNBC. Absolutely amazing. If there is no Tablet tomorrow, I expect riots in the streets.
I just can’t [...]

There are two keys to acceptance of reading on the Apple Tablet

January 23, 2010

There are two reasons that the Apple Tablet could fail.
The first is that it won’t allow content sharing; so if you buy a book on your iPhone, you MUST be able to read it on your Apple Tablet. I’m really annoyed that I can’t send my app purchases to someone else when I no longer [...]
