That is pretty much the only response from Apple. I know that my iPad 64GB WiFi does not charge through the keyboard. But it does Sync. Apparently it needs 10W, which is fine. I’ll need a longer cable that can power it too. While walking around Alexandria, VA today; I had several people ask me about it. They are all going to get one. I talked them into getting a 3G. Which may or may not make Apple happy. I’m going to be selling my 64GB WiFi when the 3G’s drop because it doesn’t make sense to have WiFi and NEVER be able to get online in remote locations that get a 3G signal. I would love the iPad to tether to the iPhone 4G when it arrives. I’m now moving A LOT of data from my Mac to my iPad and will post my experiences. So far, it’s going pretty well… except for the power draw not being enough through my Mac Keyboard. Since I have a ton of external USB HD’s there aren’t any available ports. Argh.

Come to me App Store, Book Store, and iTunes… I’m all over it like a lion on a baby zebra.

I don’t know. I think Germany should shy away from a “We” -think device that is clearly named in defiance of the singular iPad. And in a country that at one time took group think to an extreme and continues to bare its wounds in hushed tones, I would shy away from any device that encourages the socialized adoption of anything.

Sure, medicine, that seems to be okay. But lets not start having phrases like The Chosen One, or saviour of German anything. It just doesn’t sound right. Why not just call it the UberPad? Social site integration being a key selling point, primarily Facebook [70% of consumers of Facebook are outside of the US], Twitter, and YouTube, kind drive home the intention of the naming… “WePad” is supposed to dream up images of one happy community.

I’d still shy away from any group think.

I’m sorry, but there is absolutely no stolen IP here. It sure sounds and looks like a publicity stunt for a company that isn’t going to go far in the US market. You see, they are threatening to sue Apple, but lets compare products to see why I called the P88 Tablet the “Fat Bastard” of the iPad. Here is a visual representation:

So, what is the P88? Here are some specs compared to the Apple iPad. The P88 uses an Intel Atom 1.6GHz apparently, while the iPad uses a custom designed 1GHz Apple A4 system on a chip. The P88 requires conventional RAM starting at 1GB and no word as to what is goes up to. I don’t think anyone will care. The P88 is supposed to weigh in at 1.03kg which is a lot more than the .73kg for the iPad that is decked out. When it comes to storage, you have a battery sucking 160GB HDD in the P88 and not the 16, 32, or 64 gigs of Flash the iPad has. Then the screen; the P88 has a 10.2 inch screen while the iPad has a 9.7 incher. Connections on the P88? A lot for a “slate” with 3 USB ports, VGA, LAN, Microphone and Headphone ports, Card Reader, and the charging plug. The iPad has the headphone jack and a thirty-pin connector for myriad functions. Now here is the kicker, the battery life is 1.5 hours on the P88 and 10 hours on the iPad.

The thing is about 3 times as thick as the iPad, and short of the chrome surround, it is nothing like the iPad. I enjoy a good troll feeding every once in awhile, but this is just crazy. Someone thought that laughter was good marketing for their company.

GizChina has a post about it, The Register does too, CrunchGear picked it up, as did Shangaiist. As Shangaiist put it, the clone arrived 3 months before the iPad did. Which is great, if it weren’t for the painfully run-of-the-mill materials that make up the device features. I could probably build one of these out of anything I have in the office right now. I think I might have a Mac Mini I could convert into a tablet and it will have the same thickness.

The Apple Tablet was just announced by the McGraw-Hill CEO, and spontaneously ellicited from Erin Burnett on CNBC. Absolutely amazing. If there is no Tablet tomorrow, I expect riots in the streets.

I just can’t believe someone would just plop that out there and then move on. It seems straight out of the pump-n-dump style investing tactics. It is so subtle, that investors will move on this, and by closing, you could make a healthy profit.

There are two reasons that the Apple Tablet could fail.

The first is that it won’t allow content sharing; so if you buy a book on your iPhone, you MUST be able to read it on your Apple Tablet. I’m really annoyed that I can’t send my app purchases to someone else when I no longer want it. Sure, it is cheap, but perhaps I don’t want it on my phone anymore and don’t want to use it. Just like a physical book, I should be able to transfer it over to any account I care to send it to.

The second reason is that the standard newspaper interaction is going to be used on the Apple Tablet. The problem with that is that you can’t match the real world newspaper interaction, the usability of the broadsheet is impossible to match in the digital sector. But, here is how you solve that problem.

Instead of matching layout right off the start-up of the device’s newspaper reading interface; whatever the App might be, you create an interface that allows you to read the Headlines just like you would when scanning a newspaper…. headlines, content of headlines, then advertisements. Now, you’ll also have text advertisements [a la AdMob or Google type advertisements; which btw, I don't understand how AdMob hasn't been sued for matching trade dress, but anyway back to what I was saying] at the foot of the front page and each page bottom afterward, and when you click on an interesting Headline, it takes over the page and draws advertisements from the cloud services that power the news reader or from the newspaper’s proprietary interface.

You can then track the clicks, time on page, etc; just like your website.

It has always been the foundation of Apple products, usability. And if it isn’t done right, we’ll have another Microsoft product dissuading consumers from accepting ereaders, tablets, and unfortunately, Apple products.

I still wish I had purchased Apple stock back when I first heard of it as a kid.

Sure, Gizmodo wrote a big article about how the Apple Tablet has to be this and that, and whatever. But I’m linking to the article so you can read it and to draw your attention to the video I’m embedding below. Although it is from the article on Gizmodo, it is the single most important reason as to why the Apple Tablet, iPhone, MacBook, Mac, and iMac frameworks are such a success. People don’t know about Apple products as much as you might think, but once they do and trust it; they switch. I did just that after 25 years of being on a PC. The primary selling point of a PC is cost [low], accessibility [high], and until recently extensibility [you can easily expand both Mac and PC now since they are primarily the same hardware], and the only thing that separates them now from competing is getting people to use the interface.

The iPhone does that very well, and the video below shows just how easy it is. Even a caveman can do it… wait, even a one year old can do it.

People are talking about the Apple Tablet a lot lately, probably because Apple reserved a hotel room for one big meeting and everyone is getting excited. But then there are people who are upset about the unicorn bearing Apple Tablet possibly called iSlate of which people have registered iSlate.org as if it doesn’t dawn on them that if the name is trademarked, they are knowingly violating the mark. Kinda funny. But anyway, Ars Technica’s John Siracusa writes “Antacid Tablet” with his predictions, while a mess of others write about their perceptions of things Tablet.

I’m writing this at 110 baud because I have messed up my hand. Long story. But I wanted to write about this anyway. There is a LOT of talk about the Apple Tablet possibly being named the iSlate and it reminded me of my entry on my personal site back 4 months ago. I let it die because I couldn’t find any information immediately on who Slate Computing was, and frankly, I figured this was the case; Slate Computing was a cover for the development of the iSlate by Apple. Since I have no ties or informants and simply do my own digging, I hit a dead end. I should have just emailed Jobs, maybe he’d slip and confirm.

Anyone, people are going nuts over MacRumors finding evidence of the DNS change in 2007 that it was publicly displayed as owned by Apple. That might be from a site like DomainTools, the keep an historical record of domain changes is they catch them. Pretty nifty.
